GAMES DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
I want to thank NG again for giving STARSHIP PROTOTYPE a front page feature, very grateful for that.
The experience of having a game frontpaged is vastly more complicated than say a movie or a still image. It's been a humbling experience. Adding NG API options like creating leaderboards and medals add on a lot more challenges -- although it's definitely worth the effort in terms of getting more replay value out of the game.
It was really cool to see the game stay up on the front page for a solid week. I got a very good overall response for the game, much greater than I could've hoped for with this "prototype". I can see there's lots of room for improvement with the design, but I think what I created was basically in line with what I had envisioned when I first started building the game and designing mechanics. I was stubbornly adamant about having the ship fly via mouse cursor, from playing a few RTS and hack n slash games that had that same sort of left click/right click setup. I plan on expanding the concept with new options in a future installment of this game.
I want to thank all the musicians that were involved in contributing tracks for the game. I was excited to hear that all of the tracks worked very well together -- some of the tracks even being in the same key -- which allowed for some really cool transitions between tracks.
I also want to thank LarryNachos and BrandyBuizel for their advice and additional visual scripting help. Brandy essentially did all of the NG API work, so without him that wouldn't have been implemented the way it was. LarryNachos is a Construct 3 wizard who helped me with the camera scrolling, global variables, lots of other tedious C3 solutions.
There's another game (an entirely different game, genre + concept) that is currently in the works, and should be out sometime very very soon :) no spoilers on that surprise :)
